This was my first experience using the Piscario Elemental centrepin reel. Although ice fishing is not the traditional use for a centrepin reel, I was eager to see how this reel performed in frigid temperatures and am happy to report that I was not disappointed. Despite the cold weather, wind and frost, this reel performed flawlessly. The smooth action and great feel on my hand allowed me to reel in some amazing white fish ranging from 4-8 pounds.
A few days later I ventured out for trip #2. We arrived at 7:00am and caught our limit of 2 whitefish in a matter of minutes. Even in the shallow waters, these fish put up a great fight. Despite the harsh Canadian winter conditions, this reel shows no hesitation and is easy to use even with heavy gloves on. The beauty of centrepin fishing is in fighting fish on a drag-less reel. You can’t beat a crisp, clear day on the ice.
